When thinking about the percent of Jewish Citizens within the US and that its like less than 5% really strikes me as weird. Because for example on Saturday when drving downtown with a couple of my friends; i was like oh lets turn on 93.9 for the christmas carols and i realized that i was the only one who was not Jewish in the car and for example a major connotation of Glencoe is just that all the jewish people live there and this just strikes me as interesting especially when on friday in class during our discussion one of the major controversal topics was where you grow up is who you become and it strikes me as funny when there are so little jewish people in the world and on the north shore there are so many jewsih people around and i could never think that that could affect my life and when i get older and maybe move away that things would be a lot different is a shocker.

Interesting post, i have to agree and say that when you do move away a lot of things will probably shock you. Some people in this country never meet a jewish person at all, and its interesting that we go to a school with such a high concentration of jewish people especially relative to the rest of the world. But similarly, we live around few African Americans so i think that a lot of cultural views and experiences will change when all of us go to college.

Coming from a jewish perspective, i like christmas carols, but thats just me. However, the actual Jewish population in america is actually less that 1%, much less than 5%. And though i dont think its fair to generalize by saying all jews live in glencoe is fair, there is a large population their and in the surrounding north shore. Several times when i have had neighbors bring guests in from out of town, every time the jew next door comes up. and they always are scared walking into my house because they have not been exposed to different religions. Its a very interesting example of how diverse this country really is.
